I Do Not Want Your God
So, the latest is that Christianity is being brought “back” to America. Those who consider themselves to be the arbiters of all things Christian have declared that they will bring god back. If what I’m currently seeing is what they are bringing back, count me out. I would further add, that if you have to bring Christianity back, what made it leave in the first place??
If you follow this ‘Stack, you know that I am many things. I am a female. I am black. I am Christian (the Jesus of Scripture following kind…), a mother, and a pastor. As such, I must reject the god those arbiters are pushing. One of the main reasons I reject that god is because I do not know that god. Jesus tells us in John 10 that I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep and am known of mine. (Jn 10:14). Verse 27 of that chapter says that Jesus’ sheep hear His voice and I know them and they follow me. If you have ever watched sheep in the pasture, if their shepherd begins to sing or whistle, the sheep immediately respond. They can be far away from him, and he can call them close to him. There can be other shepherds (other gods) whistling, but the sheep will respond only to their master. This is a point of intimacy.
Secondly, I am a woman. I reject this god that says I can only be useful as a walking womb and have no other redeemable gifts or reason to exist. This god lays the entirety of the world’s sins at my feet. Why would I serve this god? The Jesus of Scripture honored women. He called them out of sin, restored them, recognized their gifts, ate with them. Not only mothers, but prophetesses (See Anna and Phillip’s daughters), supporters of his ministry, and preachers (women at the tomb.) Never in Scripture do you ever see women being dismissed, belittled, bruised and abused as doctrine. Since Scripture is given for our example, the examples we see in Scripture of the mistreatment of women are cautions AGAINST TREATING THEM VIOLENTLY.
I am now completing this post after June 14th 2025, and the horrific incidents of that day. Why would I want to serve a god who requires it’s followers to assassinate lawmakers of another party? Why would I serve a god that demands its adherents to drive into crowds of peaceful protesters and try and unalive as many as possible. Is this the character of The Christ? Is the Living God glorified?I will not rehash the atrocities that have been committed upon black, brown and other bodies from the first boat to American soil, to the last rail tie laid and more, for which America continues to be unrepentant.
As a mother, I reject this god whose adherents throw up billboards that profess to love children but won’t house, feed, educate or care for them in any way, shape or form upon their actual arrival. The Christ of Scripture commanded that children be allowed to come to Him. He admonished His followers of the severe penalties of causing a child to stumble or harming them in any fashion.
Finally, as a pastor in the Church of the Living God, I reject this god because it is wholly false!!! It is an idol. Just as the exiles in Jeremiah’s time replied to his admonishment and warnings to them “But we will certainly do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem” Jer. 44:17, the adherents to this false idol of nationalism feigning as Christianity refuses to repent. This god must be propped up, for it cannot speak, walk or act in it’s own accord. It forces it’s adherents to check their brains and sense at it’s doors and believe every damnable heresy (2 Pet. 2:1) spoken from the mouths of it’s “prophets”. This god cannot save, it cannot deliver, it cannot heal. This is why it must be rejected. This god must be rejected because it leaves seekers in confusion and chaos, which scripture tells us come not from the Living God, but from Satan, the father of lies himself. This god mimics, just as the magicians in Moses’ day, but it has no creative force. This god does a lot of talking, but there is no life. The Living God spoke and there WAS! ( Gen 1). The Living God speaks and the mountains thunder!. When the Living God speaks, all of creation falls into line and obeys His voice.
